Craving a low carb, low calorie, low fat mocha? Trying to avoid the hundreds (or even thousands) of calories and grams of fat that typical home-made or commercial mochas contain? trying to live the low carb lifestyle and frustrated at never being able to treat yourself to something sweet and fun? Well here - this original recipe is easy and delicious - enjoy!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • blender
  • 3-4 ice cubes for an iced version, microwave for the hot version
  • cup or glass for the finished beverage
  • cinnamon (optional) to garnish
  • 1/2 cup strong coffee
  • 2 Tablespoons non-fat dry milk powder
  • 1 Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 Tablespoons of non-caloric artificial sweetener of your choice
  1. Step 1

For the cold version, place the ice cubes into the blender and crush the ice on the ice crushing, pulverize, or pulse setting. For the hot version, omit this step and go to the next step.

  2. Step 2

Pour the coffee into the blender. Strong coffee is preferred. You may use leftover coffee from earlier in the day as a way to economically use up that leftover coffee. It's preferable for the coffee to be at room temperature if you are making a cold drink.

  3. Step 3

Add the sweetener, the milk powder and cocoa powder. Place the lid on the blender and blend at high speed for 30 seconds until well blended and a bit foamy.

  4. Step 4

For the iced version, pour into a tall glass (with more ice cubes if desired) and sprinkle with cinnamon if preferred as a garnish to serve.
For the hot version, pour into a microwave safe cup and heat on high power 60-90 seconds (depending on the wattage of your microwave over) until hot. Add cinnamon to garnish if desired.

  5. Step 5

    Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Here is the BEST part: The drink contains only about 8 grams of carbohydrates (5 from the milk powder, and 3 from the cocoa powder).
