How to Make a Scrunchie for Your Hair

Things You'll Need
- Fabric of your choice
- Matching thread
- 1/2- or 5/8-inch elastic
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Sewing machine
- Large safety pin
- Needle

Cut out a piece of fabric that is 6 inches wide and 12 inches long. Cut a 6-inch piece of elastic as well.

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew up the side. Take the safety pin and attach it to one end; pull the safety pin through the fabric "tube" to turn it inside out.

Take your piece of elastic, attach the safety pin to one end, and carefully thread the elastic through the fabric "tube."

Flap the ends of the elastic over each other and sew together with the zig-zag stitch on your machine. Go back and forth over the elastic ends several times; you don't want the seam to give under stress.

Whipstitch the ends of the tube together with a threaded needle with small stitches.

You can dress up your scrunchie for more formal events by using satin, velveteen or velour fabrics.
