Make a Scrunchie for Your Hair

Scrunchies are favorite hair accessories of women and girls. A scrunchie a perfect casual fashion accessory and is virtually essential for sports activities. Here's how you can make your own to save money or to coordinate with your wardrobe.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut out a piece of fabric that is 6 inches wide and 12 inches long. Cut a 6-inch piece of elastic as well.

  2. Step 2

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together, and sew up the side. Take the safety pin and attach it to one end; pull the safety pin through the fabric "tube" to turn it inside out.

  3. Step 3

Now take your piece of elastic, attach the safety pin to one end, and carefully thread the elastic through the fabric "tube."

  4. Step 4

Flap the ends of the elastic over each other and sew together with the zig-zag stitch on your machine. Go back and forth over the elastic ends several times; you don't want the seam to give under stress.

  5. Step 5

With a threaded needle, whipstitch the ends of the "tube" together with small stitches. Enjoy your new handcrafted scrunchie!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can dress up your scrunchie for more formal events by using satin, velveteen, or velour fabrics. The sky's the limit!
