Countless cell phones have been ruined when they got wet. Most people don't know that if your cellphone gets wet, there is a chance that you can save it if you think quickly and follow these instructions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

If your cellphone gets wet, the very first thing you should do is take the battery out. Most people panic and try to turn the phone on to see if it still working. This is the worst thing you can do. If you do this, you might just ruin it for good. So get the battery out as quickly as you can.

  2. Step 2

If your phone got dropped in water, gently shake it and try to get as much water as you can out. After you have gotten as much as you can out by shaking, place the phone and the battery in the bag of rice. Seal the bag and put it away in a dry location.

  3. Step 3

The next step is the most difficult. Now you have to wait. The reason this trick works is because the rice is very dry. With the rice and phone in a sealed container, the rice will draw the water out of the phone. This may take a couple of days to work. Be patient and let the rice do its job.

  4. Step 4

After a couple of days, open the bag and remove the phone. Carefully inspect the phone to make sure that no pieces of rice are stuck to it. If they are, gently brush them off. Put the battery back in the phone and turn it on. If you are lucky, and you put the phone in the bag of rice soon enough, there's a good chance that your phone will work now.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure the ziplock bag is sealed or the rice may draw water from the air and not from inside the phone.
  • Never attempt to charge your phone when it is wet.
