Now more than ever, it is important to both save money and "go green" to help preserve the environment. Making your own household products is a great way to do both! This extremely simple recipe for dishwasher detergent is easy to make, very cost effective, and much more natural than store bought dishwasher soap. It only takes 2 ingredients and less than 5 minutes to make!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Cup Washing soda
  • 1 Cup Borax
  1. Step 1

Gather your supplies. You will find both washing soda and Borax in the laundry isle or the cleaning supplies isle in your grocery store. If your grocery store does not carry it, they will often order it in for you. If they are unable to order it for you, it is available online.

  2. Step 2

Measure one cup of washing soda and pour it into an air tight, sealable container.

  3. Step 3

Measure one cup of Borax and pour it on top of the washing soda (don't worry if the Borax has lumps or clumps, you can stir those out in the next step).

  4. Step 4

Stir your Borax and washing soda mixture together. Make sure it is mixed evenly and all the lumps are stirred out.

  5. Step 5

Store your mixture in an air tight container (this mixture will stay good at least 12 months). Use 1-2 teaspoons per dishwasher load.

Tips & Warnings
  • use additional teaspoon for hard water
  • if you find spots, add 1/2 cup vinegar to your rise cycle
