How to Be an Executor of a Will
When someone passes away and they have a will they will need to list a name of the person that will carry out the wishes listed in the will. This person is referred to as the executor. The will executor will have the responsibility to make sure the will is located and read in a timely manner so that all the wishes can be followed. Being an executor of a will can be seen as an honor for many people. This means the person that has passed away trust you to ensure their last wishes are carried out exactly as they have written them. Keep in mind you will have to work closely with the remaining family while you are the executor and there may be people that are not pleased with what is in the will but that is the wish of the deceased and that is your job to follow it exactly. As a will executor you should follow the basic steps outlined below along with any special request listed in the will.

The first thing you will need as a will executor is locate and read the will.

The next step to being a will executor is to assist the family in making the funeral arrangements.

Now you will need to use the power given to you in the will to get the family money to pay for funeral expenses and bills.

If needed the executor can speak to the lawyer that drew up the will, or their own if it was not drawn up by a lawyer, for legal advise if needed.

Notify anyone named in the will as beneficiaries (people listed in the will as receiving something) that they are in the will.

Finally you should put the will through probate. All wills have to go through the probate process.
