Make Your House Safe For a Puppy

Welcoming a new puppy into your home is a lot like bringing a baby into your home in terms of safety. A house should be puppy proofed to protect your new puppy. Puppies will get into many things which can be harmful and dangerous to them.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep all prescription and non-prescription drugs out of the reach of your puppy. Puppies can and will chew and eat the bottle along with the medication inside. This includes vitamins, minerals and natural supplements.

  2. Step 2

Unplug anything electrical when you are not using it. Puppies like to chew and wires are no exception.

  3. Step 3

Keep all household cleaners out of a puppy’s reach. Keep them in a locked cabinet. This includes pesticides. If you use any type of insect trap or repellant keep it out of the reach of your puppy.

  4. Step 4

Keep houseplants away from your puppy. Some plants such as Poinsettias are poisonous to puppies and dogs.

  5. Step 5

Keep the gate to your pool closed and locked. If there is no fence around your pool, keep a close eye on your puppy. Puppies can drown.

  6. Step 6

Keep your puppy indoors while using a lawn mower, weed whacker, hedge trimmer, chain saw and any other dangerous power tools.

Tips & Warnings
  • Puppies need close supervision.
  • Crate train your puppy for their own safety.
