How to Bore Yourself to Sleep

The thought of laying in bed, watching the clock, tossing and turning, and not falling asleep is enough to make me crazy. It seems that all the stresses and problems that come with everyday life come to the surface just as I get into bed. The more I try not to think about anything the more I can't stop thinking about it. I have found an easy solution to the problem which is so easy and really works for me. I hope you have the same results.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure your room is very dark. I find this is so important because if you can't see anything you can't think about it. Also, make sure your bed is comfortable. The covers and sheets should be smooth and no irritating. Make sure your pillows are the way you like them. Keep the temperature in the room a little cooler than usual.

  2. Step 2

Get into bed and get comfortable. Here are the mind games I play to lull myself to sleep. If these don't work for you I'm sure you will be able to come up with some on your own.

  3. Step 3

Name all of the states in the United States in alphabetical order. I rarely make it past South Carolina! Name famous people with the same initials. Example: AA = Alan Alda, BB = Barry Bonds, etc, Think of all the boys or girls names that begin with the same letter. Try to name all the countries, continents and states that begin and end with the same letter. Example: Asia, Australia.

  4. Step 4

The idea is to concentrate on something mundane so you don't start thinking about things that will keep you from sleeping. Give it a try. I bet it helps!
