How to Keep a Toilet Bowl Clean

Save

The toilet is one of the most germ-filled places in your house. Keeping your toilet bowl clean can help prevent the spread of harmful bacteria. Putting off cleaning your toilet will make the job more difficult. Weekly cleanings along with some other tools for in between cleanings will help keep your toilet bowl fresh and germ-free.

Things You'll Need

  • Toilet brush
  • Disinfectant wipes
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Spray bottle

Weekly cleanings

  • Flush your toilet.

  • Sprinkle baking soda onto the sides of the toilet bowl.

  • Allow it to sit for a few minutes.

  • Spray a solution of 50 percent water and 50 percent vinegar around the outside of your toilet bowl, including the handle and all other visible areas.

  • Wipe the outside clean with a sponge.

  • Scrub the inside of the toilet with your toilet brush.

  • Flush the toilet.

Tips & Warnings

  • For in-between cleanings, keep disinfectant wipes on the back of the toilet and wipe the seat and handle down daily. Cleaning the toilet weekly instead of when it appears to need cleaning is the key to keeping a clean toilet.
  • If a child is potty training, you might need to clean the toilet more than weekly. Tablets to keep your toilet fresh can be added in between cleanings, but do not depend only on them for keeping your toilet fresh and disinfected.
