How to Knit a Hat Using Eyelash Yarns
Knitting with eyelash yarn isn't much different than knitting with regular yarn except, because of eyelash yarn's texture, it needs to be used alongside another yarn. Essentially, when making a hat with eyelash yarn, you'll be knitting double-stranded. But though the instructions are similar, the results are far different from what you'll get when knitting a hat with plain yarn.
Things You'll Need
- Skein of any DK-weight yarn
- Skein of eyelash yarn
- Set of size 7 U.S. (4.5mm) or 8 (5mm) 16-inch circular knitting needles
- 4 or 5 size 7 U.S. (4.5mm) or 8 (5mm) double-pointed needles
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry needle

With your circular needle, or double-pointed, and a strand each of your DK and eyelash yarn held together, cast on 96 stitches. Join in the round, being careful not to twist either yarns or stitches on the needle. Place a stitch marker at the end of the round. K2, P2 for six rounds. You can easily shorten or extend this part of the hat if you want more or less ribbing.

Once your ribbing is the length you want, start knitting every stitch. Continue knitting until the hat measures about 6 to 7 inches from the cast-on point. This length will be determined by how large you want your hat.

When your hat is the desired length, start decreasing. If you have been using a circular needle, switch to the double-pointed needles when there are too few stitches to fit on the circular needle. On the first round of the decrease, knit 7, knit 2 together (K2Tog). Repeat this until the end of the round.
Round 2: Knit every stitch.
Round 3: Knit 6, K2Tog. Repeat all the way around.
Round 4: Knit every stitch.
Round 5: Knit 5, K2Tog. Repeat all the way around.
Round 6: Knit every stitch.
Round 7: K4, K2Tog. Repeat all the way around.
Round 8: Knit every stitch.
Round 9: Knit 3, K2Tog. Repeat all the way around.
Round 10: Knit every stitch.
Round 11: K2, K2Tog. Repeat all the way around.
Round 12: Knit every stitch.
Round 13: K1, K2Tog. Repeat all the way around.

Break both yarns and using a tapestry needle, or large-eye needle, and one or both of the yarns, sew the top of the hat. Weave in any other loose ends.

Tips & Warnings
If you're using a different yarn weight, you should always use instructions for a slightly larger needle size/gauge, because when knitting double-stranded, you're basically thickening the weight of the hat.
