Many people use facial toner as the foundation for their entire beauty routine. The purpose of facial toner is to strip away dirt and residue that your facial cleanser may have missed. Additionally, facial toner helps to make your face feel fresh and clean. Many commercial facial toners contain harsh chemicals (such as alcohol) that may dry your skin. Instead of using a commercial facial toner, consider making your own herbal toner. The process is simple and inexpensive and the finished product will be effective.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Jar
  • Measuring cups
  • 1/8 cup of three different herbs, spices or oils
  • ¾ cup witch hazel
  • Mesh strainer
  • Bowl

    How To Make Facial Toner

  1. Step 1

Place 1/8-cup each of the herbs, spices or oils of your choice into the jar.

  2. Step 2

Pour ¾-cup witch hazel over the herbs in the jar to cover them completely. If the witch hazel does not cover the herbs, add enough to cover.

  3. Step 3

Refrigerate for a week. Don't stir or shake the mixture during this time.

  4. Step 4

Remove the jar from the refrigerator after one week and open the jar. Remove the herbs by pouring the mixture through the mesh strainer into the bowl. Pour the finished herbal toner back into the jar to store it.

  5. Step 5

Apply the facial toner by dipping a cotton ball in it and wiping it onto your face.

  6. Step 6

Store your toner in the jar in your medicine cabinet for up to two weeks.

Tips & Warnings
  • Suggestions for herbs, spices and oils to include: cinnamon, mint, rosemary, whole cloves, and tea tree oil When you make your first few batches, use only a few herbs so it will be easy to pinpoint the problem if your skin is sensitive to one. Homemade toner is perishable, so make small batches or store part of it in the refrigerator until you need it.
