How to Apply Eye Shadow Easily

Applying eye shadow can almost be considered an art form. If not done correctly eye shadow can actually detract from, rather than, enhance your eyes. This article will describe, step by step, how to properly apply eye shadow.

Things You'll Need:

• Eye shadow
• Eye shadow brush
• Mirror

1. 

   The most important first step is to pick colors that work for your skin and eye color.
   
   Here are tips on eye shadow colors for each eye color:
   
   Blue Eyes: gray, deep blue, black, taupe, and purple, black, silver
   
   Hazel or Green Eyes: plum, brown, purple, plum, bright purple, khaki, and forest green
   
   Brown Eyes: bronze, khaki-green, copper, soft pink, brown, beige, tangerine, and royal blue
   
   Any Eye Color: navy or charcoal based shadow, and silver/sparkle
   
   These are only suggestions so don't feel limited to these eye shadow colors.

2. Now that you have picked out your eye shadow color it is time for application. First start with the lightest color in your eye shadow pallet. Apply this color from your eye lashes to your eyebrows.

3. Next take the second lightest color and apply to just your eye lid.

4. If your pallet has only three colors you will use your darkest color next. This should be applied in the crease of your eyelid from the outside edge of the eye to the middle of the eye.

5. Blend all three colors together with a brush or finger to make the eye shadow look smooth. If there are four colors in your pallet use the darkest color at the outer edge of the eye. Apply from just above the crease to the center or just below the crease in a sideways V shape (or a "greater than" shape. Be sure that the eye shadow does not extend beyond the eyebrow. Blend in with a finger or brush.

Tips & Warnings

• Pick eye shadow colors that enhance your eye color.
• Avoid sparkles and greasy/glossy eye shadow. These draw attention to your eye lids not your eyes.
