How to Set Up A Personal Domain Name For iWeb

Purchasing a domain name for your iWeb site is a relatively easy process, especially if you have a MobileMe account. The steps below will show you how to purchase a domain name and then link it to your published iWeb site.

1. The first thing you need to do is to purchase a domain name. A domain name is the name of the website and is how your viewers will find you on the web. In this scenario I've purchased my domain name from GoDaddy.

   Purchasing a domain name is a breeze, simply log on to their website and type the domain name you would like to buy, if the name is not taken you can simply click on the go button and buy it. In order to purchase your domain name you must create a user name and log on, don't worry registering is free.

   Once your domain name is purchased you need to do a few things to get your new domain name to point to your published iWeb site. In your main menu click on the green domain tab and then click on the link "my domains"

   Once in your domain manager, click on the domain name you've just purchased to change the settings for your iWeb site, under the column "total DNS" click on the hyper link "total DNS control"

   You will need to change your cname settings in order for you to direct your purchased domain name to your iWeb site.

   To do this look at the first row under the column labled "host" it should say "www", follow that row all the way to the right. You should see and icon with a piece of notepaper and a pencil.Click on that. A message box will appear advising that you are changing the www.cname, click ok.

   Once you get to the cname configuration enter it exactly as you see on the picture to your left. Then click ok to save.

   Click on the domain tab again and under the column "domain information" click on the hyper link that says manage.

7. 

   This should bring you to a box that allows you to forward your purchased domain name to your published iWeb site. Simply click "edit" then type in the the web address of your published iWeb site and it should take roughly 5 minutes for the forwarding to occur.
