Avoid Losing Socks in the Wash
Avoid Losing Socks in the Wash

Socks are infamous for getting lost in the wash. How can you avoid a pile of unmatched socks? Read on...

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Medium sized container (grocery sack and hanger, empty shoe box, empty basket, etc.)
  • Mesh laundry bag (zips closed and washable)
  1. Step 1

Do your best to keep socks together when putting them into the dirty laundry pile. There are several ways to do this:

    1. Pin socks together (very effective, but time consuming and cumbersome).
    2. Place socks in a separate hamper, and wash all the socks together in a small load once a week.
    3. Place socks in a mesh laundry bag (also commonly referred to as a lingerie or delicates bag).

  2. Step 2

Keep a medium sized container like a grocery sack (it's convenient to "hang" it on the clothes rod in your laundry room), empty shoe box, or basket in the laundry room close to your dryer.

  3. Step 3

When you find a sock that's missing it's mate, simply toss the lone sock into the container. Every now and then (say, once a month), sort through the socks in the container and match them up. This is a great task for children ~ mine love playing the "sock matching game"!

Tips & Warnings
  • Routinely run your hand along the seals, cracks, and agitator in your washer and dryer. You'd be surprised how often a rogue sock gets "eaten" by machines causing missing socks and machine damage!
