Everyone does not have the "handyman gene". That being said, there are still a few simple tools that everyone should have in their car and home. I recommend buying two inexpensive toolboxes at a discount store and keeping duplicates of everything so you always have these tools with you.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two toolboxes
  • Two hammers
  • Two phillips screwdrivers
  • Two flat-tip screwdrivers
  • A few nails
  • A few screws
  • One set of jumper cables
  • Two small socket and wrench sets
  • Two pairs of needle-nose pliers
  • Two plastic funnel sets
  • Two boxes of bandages
  • Two wire coat hangers
  • Two flashlights
  • Extra batteries for the flashlights
  1. Step 1

I purchased my toolboxes at a large discount chain store. They do not have to be elaborate. They should be sufficient to meet your needs. The one for my car is slightly larger than the one for my home since I have more in it.

  2. Step 2

After you have chosen your toolboxes I recommend the following items be placed in them.
    One hammer in each
Two screwdrivers in each (one phillips and one flat-tip)
A few screws and nails in each
A small inexpensive socket and wrench set in each
A pair of needle-nosed pliers in each
A plastic funnel set in each (dollar stores carry these)
A wire coat hanger in each (you can bend to fit)
A box of bandages in each

  3. Step 3

The last thing I recommend you do is purchase a pair of jumper cables for the toolbox in your car. It is better to be safe than sorry.

  4. Step 4

It is also a good idea to place a flashlight in each toolbox along with extra flashlight batteries.

  5. Step 5

After you have stocked all these things ask yourself if there is anything else you need. Different people might choose to stock things only they would need. Being prepared can save lot of stress and aggravation later on.
