If your freezer is full of frost and ice, then it is not running as efficiently as it should. To get your freezer to run better, follow these tips to defrost your freezer every time you notice ice or frost building up.

    Take all of your food out of the freezer. Put it in a cooler if you have one. If you do not have a cooler, place the food in the refrigerator and keep the door closed.

    Unplug the refrigerator/freezer.

    Open the Freezer door. Line the bottom of the freezer with either a thick layer of paper towels or newspaper to soak up the melting ice and frost.

    To help the freezer defrost faster, you can hold a dish rag under hot running water then use the rag to rub the frost until it breaks off or melts.

    Once you have removed as much of the ice and frost as you can, leave the door open and allow for the rest of the ice and frost to melt. You may need to change out the layers of paper towels or newspapers as they soak up the water.

    Once the freezer has completely defrosted and dried out, you can put your food in and plug in the cord. Your freezer will now run more efficiently and save you money on your electric bill!

on 10/15/2009 How I remember doing this! I tried to do it when there was as little as possible in the freezer so there was less to put in the cooler. Anyone who doesn't have a cooler should get one--they're inexpensive and useful also in the summer when bringing frozen foods home from the grocery store. Well done, nice pictures, too. 5*
