Things You'll Need:
- Beets
- Water
- Non-stick butter flavored cooking spray.
- Frying pan, skillet or griddle.
- Knife
- Sauce pan
- Spatula
- Sugar substitute or sugar

Step 1
BeetTake out some beets and a knife.

Hack off the roots and the greensCut the root and greens off the beets.

Wash the beets.

Place in a sauce pan large enough to accommodate the number of beets you are cooking.

Beet waterCover with water.

Step 6
Place the pan on a burner.

Step 7
Turn the burner on medium to high heat.

Bring the water to a boil.

Once water boils reduce the heat to low.

Allow to simmer for 4 to 12 minutes depending upon the size of the beet.

RemoveRemove the beets from the water with tongs.

coolRun cold water over beets to quickly cool them. The boiling and cooling process is intended to make the beets easier to peel but not to completely cook them.

PeelPeel the beets.

GriddlePut a frying pan or griddle on a burner.

SpraySpray with butter flavored non-stick cooking spray.

Turn burner on to medium low heat.

Cut beets into slices.

ArrangeArrange in a single layer on the pan.

Spray with butter flavored non-stick cooking spray.

TurnTurn with a spatula when the beets are half cooked.

Put on plateWhen beets are done place on a serving plate.

SprinkleSprinkle with artificial sweetener or sugar.

Serve and Enjoy!

on 10/24/2009 I love beets. I've never heard of fried beets, but then again, I hadn't heard of 'fried pickles' either till I moved south. Love the pickles; am sure I'll love the beets as well...sounds delicious! 5*
