This article is about how to build big calves.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Building calf muscles isn't the easiest thing to do, especially for those that have their odds against genetics. To put it bluntly, building calf muscles is almost on par as much as picking up on a hot girl. You have to expect that challenge and be confidently enough to know you'll eventually win. As long as you play your cards right anyway.

  2. Step 2

Here's one exercise to build bigger calf muscles:

Calf-raises: You can either do this exercise with a standing calf-raise machine, or you can use a platform preferably on a higher surface. You can also use dumbbells for this exercise.

  3. Step 3

If you want to add in more resistance for a more overall full body workout, use a barbell instead of a calf-raising machine. Position yourself in squat position with your feet at shoulder width apart and press up using your feet. At the peak of your movement, be sure to squeeze your calves all at the same time for better muscle contraction. The more muscle contraction your calf receives, the more muscle damage will occur. And in the end result, the more muscle growth will occur also.

  4. Step 4

Sprints are also another awesome way to build big calves. While you are sprinting, not only are you recruiting all of your leg muscles, but the majority of your power is coming from your calves after each step you make. So if you want to build big calves, including sprinting into your workouts will be an awesome way to get your cardio and also reach your calf building goals.
