Netbooks are handy tools that can be used to work, play or stay connected while on the road. Netbooks are small, light and inexpensive. Netbooks are often used on unsecured, public internet networks so they are targets of viruses and malware. This tutorial will explain how to protect your Netbook from and, if found, remove viruses, spyware, adware and malware from your Netbook.
Things You'll Need
- Internet connection or external drive
- Cleaning, Anti-virus, firewall and anti-malware software
Identify how you want to install the software you will to use to prevent, detect and remove the computer virus and malware. Netbooks have no CD, DVD or floppy drive so software must either be downloaded from the internet or installed through an external hard drive.
Install software to block spyware, prevent viruses and malware. Many Netbooks come with McAfee or Norton AntiVirus from Symantec pre installed on the computer. You can activate these free trial versions or you can install an alternative version. AVG Free and Panda Internet Security 2010 Free are two solid free versions of anti-virus software also designed to stop spyware and stop adware.
Regardless of what software you choice, be sure it is active and updated on a regular basis. For fee paid services, you will need to keep your subscription up to date.
Be sure your firewall is activated. You can chose to use the windows firewall pre-installed on your Netbook or you can activate the firewall in you anti-virus package.
Run a cleaning software designed for detecting spyware on a regular basis to maintain Netbook processing speed and to remove items picked up by your Netbook while surfing the web. CCleaner is a solid free version of spyware cleaner.
If you suspect malware on your computer because it is running slowly, has strange pop ups or the anti-virus software detects it, then download software designed to find spyware and eliminate spyware. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, A-squared Free and SuperAntiSpywate Free are free versions of adware removal tool to consider. These tools get rid of spyware when used individually or in tandem. Continue to run the software until all spyware, viruses and malware are removed.
