Step 3
Garden seeds can be started indoors our outdoors. You will have better success starting indoors under controlled conditions. Using a seed starter will give you good soil, individual cells and easy access to care for each plant. Plant the tomato seeds about 1/8" deep in your soil. Place 2-3 seeds per cell and then thin to 1 healthy tomato plant once they reach 2 inches high. Once they sprout, make sure they receive 6-8 hours of direct sunlight.

Step 4
When you tomato plants are 6-10" inches tall it is time to transplant your seeds in your home garden. Harden off by taking outside gradually and exposing to outside conditions. Plant into your garden soil so that only 2" inches of the 10" plant show. By burying so deep you will encourage deep root growth that has a sturdy base. Water generously the first couple weeks and add fertilizer.
