Animal Crossing: Wild World

"Animal Crossing: Wild World" is a social simulation game developed and published by Nintendo for their DS system in 2005. Players take on the role of a new resident of a virtual town, where they will interact with the locals, excavate fossils, capture butterflies and perform chores. "Wild World" is the first in the series to offer online play, which introduces a new level of social interaction. Setting up the Wi-Fi connection to access these online features is a quick process that must be done in-game.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the "Animal Crossing: Wild World" cartridge into the Nintendo DS. After the title screen animation finishes, you will have a choice between "New Game," "Tag Mode," "Other Things" and "Nevermind." Select "Other Things." You will not need to have created a game to access the Wi-Fi settings.

    • 2

Select "Wi-Fi Settings." When asked if you would click to continue, click "yes." This will bring you to the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Setup" screen. Tap the large blue button labeled "Connection Settings" to access the connection selection screen.

    • 3

Choose one of the three "Connection" boxes. It is advisable to reserve the first box for your home network and use the other two when connecting to public Wi-Fi hotspots.

    • 4

Touch the "Search for an Access Point" button to find all nearby networks. Select the name of the network you wish to connect to and enter the WEP password, if needed.

    • 5

Return to the network connection selection screen and click on your newly created network. Tap the "Test Connection" icon under the name of the network. If the signal is reliable, your copy of "Animal Crossing: Wild World" will now be able to access the Internet. These settings will be saved for all Nintendo DS Wi-Fi compatible games.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are playing on a Nintendo DSi, you can configure your Wi-Fi settings on the "Internet" screen of the system menu.

  • The Nintendo DS can only connect to unprotected wireless networks or those protected with WEP encryption. If you are running a WPA-protected network, you will need to disable it or switch to WEP.
