How to Hookup HDTV
A High Definition Television (HDTV) not only supplies the finest picture and sound available today, but can also be set up in minutes with minimal fuss and confusion. Unified cables that supply audio and video make connections a snap. Just follow these steps to hookup your HDTV to a digital cable or satellite receiver and to your DVD or Blu-Ray player.
Things You'll Need
- HDTV
- Cable or satellite receiver
- DVD or Blu-Ray player
- HDMI (High Definition Media Interface) cables.
- DVI (Digital Visual Interface) cable
- RGB or S-video cables for a DVD player

Disconnect all equipment from the power source while making connections.

Connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI Input jack on the back of your high-def TV. The plug will only insert in one direction, so take care to insert it the right way and do not force the plug into the jack.

Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the jack on the back of the cable or satellite receiver box.

Connect an HDMI cable to the HDTV's second HDMI input jack if you are hooking up a Blu-Ray player. Otherwise, connect a component video cable to the appropriate jacks on the back of your set to hook up a standard DVD player. The component cables are color-coded red, blue and green (RGB)

Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to your Blu-Ray player or the component cables to your DVD player.

Restore power to all equipment.

Change the TV input setting using your remote control to toggle between television programming from a cable or satellite system, and using the Blu-Ray or DVD player.
