Different drug tests are more effective than others. Saliva drug tests have become the most common and effective for employers that are not necessarily looking for the battery of information that is generated by urinalysis. Saliva tests show drug use within recent days. Saliva tests often check for marijuana, cocaine, opiates and methamphetamine, though some tests can include additional drugs.

    Avoid Drug Situations

  1. Step 1

Abstain from the use of marijuana, methamphetamines and opiates. Saliva drug tests are nearly impossible to beat, and products that claim that they beat saliva tests are often ineffective.

  2. Step 2

Avoid being in areas where drugs are being smoked. Marijuana smoke can be inhaled and, in sufficient quantities, will cause a false positive on a drug test.

  3. Step 3

Disclose any prescription medications you may be taking that would interfere with a drug test. False positives can come from ingestion of legal drugs, as well. Have your prescription available for inspection.

  4. Step 4

Follow the instructions of the test. Most saliva tests require abstaining from food for 24 hours.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're concerned about an addiction showing up on a saliva drug test, get help. Most employers are willing to work around a treatment schedule.
