      Apply for a license. Submit an application online with the Florida Department of Financial Services at https://aalf.fldfs.com/common/com_index.asp. There is an application fee, and fees are subject to change. You must be at least 18 years old.

      Submit a set of fingerprints if you are a Florida resident applying for the first time with the FLDFS using the Live Scan process. Check for Live Scan locations near you at: www.flprints.com or call (877) 357-7456. Fees are paid directly to the Live Scan vendor and are subject to change.

      Check to see if you've been approved. Access the FLDFS website at: http://www.flfds.com for your approval status or call (877) 693-5236. You''ll receive an approval notice in the mail, which arrives in the form of an Examination Authorization Notice. It's required to schedule and take the 2-20 license examination.

      Complete a 200-hour pre-licensing insurance course. Check for classes in your area, which offer weekly, weekend and online courses, at: https://dice.fldfs.com/public/pb_srch_adv.asp. You'll receive a certificate upon completing the course.

      Schedule the exam. Sign up and make reservations for the state license exam by visiting Pearson Vue (exam company) at http://www.vue.com or call Pearson Vue at (888) 274-2020. You'll know whether you passed or failed right after you take the exam.
