Instructions

    • 1
Make a handmade journal with just a few supplies

Stack the pieces of white paper on top of the colored paper and fold the stack in half horizontally. If the colored paper is only printed on one side, make sure the printed side is facing away from the white paper.

    • 2

Thread the string or yarn through the large needle.

    • 3
Keep the holes as evenly spaced as possible

Using the needle, poke three holes along the fold--one at the top, one in the middle, and one at the bottom. Leave margins at the top and bottom that are about 1/2 inch.

    • 4
Leaving 4 inches of thread on the outside is necessary

Pull the needle and thread through the middle hole from the outside in, leaving about 4 inches of thread on the outside.

    • 5

Pull the needle and thread through the top hole from the inside out.

    • 6
The journal should look like this following Step 6

Pull the needle and thread through the bottom hole outside in.

    • 7
      This is the final product

Pull the needle out the middle hole again, inside out. Tie a knot or bow on the outside and trim any excess yarn. The bound journal is ready to be used.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use card stock for the cover to make it more sturdy. Use stamps, stickers or embellishments to decorate the front cover. You can use yarn, ribbon or waxed thread to make stronger or more colorful bindings.

  • Keep a firm hold on the paper as you poke the holes, or the edges of the paper won't line up when you put it together.
