A System Restore offers you the benefits of resetting your computer without the hassles of reinstalling programs and reconfiguring the system. The utility allows you to restore your computer to a previous point without deleting documents, photos or other personal files. According to Microsoft, System Restore periodically creates restoration points that contain important information about your computer's registry and system settings. This allows it to recall those settings, by date, and present them to you as restore points.

Click "Start" on your Windows taskbar.

Open the "Control Panel."

Click the "System and Security" option at the top of the window.

Choose "Action Center" in the page that loads.

Click the "Recovery" icon, then select the "Open System Restore" button.

Choose "Next." A new window will open detailing your restore points.

Click on a date to select it. Click the "Show More Options" check box to see more restore points.

Click the "Next" button when you have selected a date and are ready to restore your computer.

Select the "Finish" button to start the restore.
