How to Change a Blade on a Compound Miter Saw

Compound miter saws are the most commonly used power tool on any job site. The versatility of this saw promotes its extensive use. With increased use comes increased wear on the blade. The process of changing the blade is a simple task.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wrench
  1. Step 1

    Unplug the saw.

  2. Step 2

    Press the motor lock button. It is usually on the motor housing. It may be necessary to rotate the blade to fully engage the lock. The blade can not be turned when the lock is engaged.

  3. Step 3

    While holding the blade lock, move the blade guard and turn the blade bolt to the right to loosen.

  4. Step 4

    Remove the blade bolt and blade washer.

  5. Step 5

    Place a new blade in saw with teeth facing down and reinstall the blade washer then bolt. Make sure to turn the blade bolt to the left to tighten. Ensure bolt is tight.

  6. Step 6

    Release motor lock, plug saw in and test saw to ensure blade is properly installed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most saws come with a wrench designed to remove the blade bolt.
  • Remember the blade bolt is reverse threaded. Always tighten by turning to the left.
