How to Lose 6 Pounds in a Week

When you have a big event coming up, you may want to try to lose six pounds in a week in order to look your best. While there's no way to actually lose six pounds of fat in just a week, you can lose six pounds if you include water weight. This will make you look slimmer and feel sexier. You won't be able to keep up this type of rapid weight loss long-term, but you can achieve your short-term goal.

  • Drink lots of water. Water keeps you hydrated and can help fill up your stomach so that you don't overeat. In fact, many people reach for food when, in fact, it's water that their body craves. Additionally, not drinking enough water can actually cause your body to retain water. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and sip it throughout the day.

  • Cut processed foods out of your diet. Processed foods are foods that are made in a factory. This includes just about anything with the word "white" in it--white bread, white rice and white pasta, for example. It also includes high-fat and high-sugar items like chips and cookies. While these foods aren't particularly healthy at any time, you really want to cut them all out when you're are trying to lose weight quickly.

  • Avoid salty foods. Salt makes you retain water, so you don't want to eat foods that contain a lot of salt. Check all labels before you eat something as you may be surprised by how salt can show up in unexpected places. Also refrain from salting the foods that you do eat. Use other herbs and spices for flavor instead.

  • Base your meals on vegetables. Vegetables are high fiber and filling, yet low in calories. This is perfect for dropping some pounds quickly. Eat a lot of salad, but avoid high-calorie dressings. Make vegetables the focal point of all your meals.

  • Choose fruits for a snack. Fruits are also filling and low in calories. They are also extremely portable, making them the ideal snack for dieters.

  • Exercise daily. Make a point to exercise every day. If you can, do a combination of cardio and strength building exercises. This will increase your energy, improve your posture and boost your mood, as well as help you drop those pounds.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep up your newfound healthy habits after your big event. If you don't, you're likely to see at least some of those pounds return after you return to your old eating habits.
