Save

The Lincoln Navigator is a luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) manufactured and sold by Ford Motor Co. The vehicle comes with a deluxe factory stereo system wired to 14 speakers, including subwoofers, which are low-frequency speakers that deliver bass. Whether you have factory speakers or aftermarket replacement subwoofers, replacing one of these speakers takes only a few minutes if you follow these steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdrivers
  • Replacement subwoofer
  • Electrical tape
  • Extract and set aside the mounting screws of the subwoofer's grille cover and remove it. If there aren't screws, use the flat edge of a screwdriver to pop off the cover by working the edge carefully around the rim of the grille cover. Standard subwoofers on a Lincoln Navigator are 8 inches in diameter.

  • Unscrew the round subwoofer from its housing using the screwdriver. Set aside the screws in a safe place. You'll need them again Keep a plastic cup handy to hold these small parts.

  • Pull the subwoofer straight back from the housing so you can see the two connecting wires behind it.

  • Detach the two wires by pulling straight back at the metal clips that slide onto the subwoofer posts. Tape the wires to the side of the mounting enclosure to prevent them from falling back inside the vehicle.

  • Orient the new sub over the mounting hole so that the connections on back are as close as possible to the wires.

  • Clip the wires to the posts on the new sub. The red wire connects to the right terminal and the black wire connects to the left.

  • Place the sub inside the mounting enclosure and secure it with screws.

  • Replace the speaker grille cover and secure with screws or snap back into place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Turn off vehicle and remove the keys from the ignition switch while replacing the sub. Avoid crossing wires while reconnecting the new sub.
