      Mix a cleaning solution of 3 tablespoons of baking soda and a pint of warm water. Use the baking soda and water mixture to wipe down and clean the inside walls of your microwave with a sponge or paper towel. Rinse the sponge out in water and wipe once more to remove any baking soda residue.

      Place a tablespoon of baking soda in a microwave-safe cup for an alternative cleaning solution. Pour in some water and stir it up. Place it in the microwave oven and turn it on. You want to get the water in the cup to boil for three minutes. The inside walls of the microwave should be damp and very easy to wipe down with a sponge or paper towel.

      Store an open container of baking soda inside the microwave between uses to eliminate lingering odors. Be sure to remove it before cooking anything, then place it back inside when you are done.
