How to Keep Your Microwave Oven Clean With Baking Soda

Use baking soda to clean your microwave oven.

Microwaves are pretty handy cooking devices, but you know how easy it is for hot food to splatter the interior surface. If it's not immediately cleaned up, it will continue to bake on with continued use. But with the use of baking soda, you can get that gunk cleaned out and return your microwave to peak cooking conditions.

Things You'll Need

• Sponge or paper towel
• Bowl

Instructions

1. Mix a cleaning solution of 3 tablespoons of baking soda and a pint of warm water. Use the baking soda and water mixture to wipe down and clean the inside walls of your microwave with a sponge or paper towel. Rinse the sponge out in water and wipe once more to remove any baking soda residue.

2. Place a tablespoon of baking soda in a microwave-safe cup for an alternative cleaning solution. Pour in some water and stir it up. Place it in the microwave oven and turn it on. You want to get the water in the cup to boil for three minutes. The inside walls of the microwave should be damp and very easy to wipe down with a sponge or paper towel.

3. Store an open container of baking soda inside the microwave between uses to eliminate lingering odors. Be sure to remove it before cooking anything, then place it back inside when you are done.
