Making your car last as long as possible is the name of the game these days. Over time, car ceilings, or headliners, can pull away from your car roof. Not only is this unattractive, drooping headliners can obstruct your view.  It is possible to find reasonably priced businesses to replace the headliner in your car. Give new meaning to “raising the roof” and find a reputable shop to replace your headliner.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Telephone book
  • Internet
  1. Step 1

Ask your car repair shop if they can fix the ceiling. If you have an established rapport with your repair shop, they can either fix or replace the headliner, or recommend someone who can.

  2. Step 2

Check pricing at other repair shops. Some repair shops only specialize in headliner and upholstery repair and replacement.

  3. Step 3

Consider word of mouth. Your friends may know someone who can replace your car headliner.

  4. Step 4

Learn more about replacing headliners. Knowledge is power, and you want to be able to discuss replacing your headliner in an intelligent manner.

  5. Step 5

Understand the information that comes with replacing a headliner. Research your particular car model. Know about the different products that are applied and what happens if you have a sunroof. Discuss the foam thickness that is used, the color of the replacement headliner and if you want your headliner replaced with vinyl or fabric.

  6. Step 6

Compare prices. Sometimes you get what you pay for. Sometimes you do not. This is where recommendations come into play.

  7. Step 7

Ask about a guarantee. Original headliners may last 10 years. Replacement headliners may be guaranteed for 3 years.

  8. Step 8

Determine if the repair shop can send someone to your home or if you need to drop off your car. If you need to drop off your car, verify how long they will need your car to complete replacing the headliner.
