With today's new and improving technology, staying in touch with friends and family is easier than ever before. Help from the Internet and other mobile devices provide us with the tools necessary to stay close with our friends no matter where we may be.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet
  • Web-cam
  1. Step 1

To begin, make sure you have a lab top or desktop computer with Internet connection. Once you have met these requirements, you can text and chat with instant messaging.

  2. Step 2

Web sites like Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter can be useful in allowing you to text, post messages, and photos at your convenience. They are great sites for keeping close contacts with friends and family. You may even meet new people just by becoming a member of these web sites.

  3. Step 3

If you have a web-cam, it can be most effective in communicating with friends or family. You can purchase a web-cam, or it may already be built into your computer. This device is good for people you haven't seen in a while. By setting up a time to meet online, you can chat as if he/she were sitting next to you.

  4. Step 4

The web site, Skype.com is useful for sending instant messages as well as sharing files with other Skype members. However, you can make video and voice calls. The best part is that it is free! Just make sure the person you want to connect to has a web-cam as well.

Tips & Warnings
  • The web sites mentioned above are great for college students or individuals moving away. By using them, you will never feel alone.
  • Web-cam conferences are also good. If you feel homesick, talking to a sibling, parent, or friend can be reassuring. It would feel as though they were with you at your new job or college.
