Your school science fair project can be simple and fun. Creating a science experiment that makes sense and affects a large number of the population will make an impression on your teacher and your science fair judges. Displaying the results of your eggshell science fair project will have a big impact on your final presentation, and your interesting results will be remembered long after the science fair is over.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Egg shells
  • Orange juice
  • Soda
  • Milk
  • Posterboard
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  1. Step 1

Understand the premise of the project. You will use white eggshells to show how various liquid substances stain the shells. Simply stated, eggshells are made of calcium and react to substances similar to the way our teeth do.

  2. Step 2

Save the white eggshells that your family uses for cooking. Rinse the eggshells and air dry.

  3. Step 3

Create a lab area where your eggshells can be placed in bowls with different liquids.

  4. Step 4

Place a different liquid in each bowl. You should probably have at least 3 types of liquids. Milk, soda and orange juice are good examples.

  5. Step 5

Add eggshells to each bowl. Make sure some of the eggshell is not submerged. You want to show how the liquid stains the eggshell. Try to use sections of the eggshells that are as flat as possible. This will make is easier to attach to your posterboard.

  6. Step 6

Document the time you placed the eggshells in the liquid. You may choose to show various lengths of time that the pieces of eggshell were submerged. For example, you could show the staining at 1 hour, 3 hours and 6 hours.

  7. Step 7

Record your data carefully. Draw a chart or create a chart on your computer. Add a title to your chart. Colorful charts add interest and make it easy for others to read and compare your information.

  8. Step 8

When you have collected enough data, assemble your posterboard information. Make sure you include all the information your teacher and science fair guidelines request. You may include a hypothesis and conclusion, if that is acceptable.

  9. Step 9

Place your data and eggshells on your chart. Arrange the information so it flows from beginning to end. Keep titles clear and simple.

  10. Step 10

Glue your eggshell science fair project to your posterboard.
