Start a Gumball Machine Vending Business

Starting a gumball machine vending business can be fun and profitable. And while it's not always easy to get started, it is a simple business to run. The steps in this article can be applied to starting a vending business with gumball machines or any other bulk candy of your choice.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Find locations.

This is likely to be the most challenging aspect of your business. Profitable locations for gumball vending machines are in the lobbies of restaurants, the waiting rooms of retail locations, or in employee break rooms.

It may be difficult to find a location that is available and where the owner or manager is agreeable to the idea of you placing your gumball or candy machine. That is why it is important to find at least one location before moving onto step two.

  2. Step 2

    Buy your machines.

Gumball vending machines (and other bulk candy machines) can be purchased new at wholesale shopping clubs. They can also be purchased used at sites like eBay and Craigslist.

Make sure that any machine you buy is in good working order and that you are able to make repairs to it when necessary.

  3. Step 3

    Buy your bulk gumballs.

Bulk gumballs and other candy can also be purchased at wholesale clubs or through online vendors. Buy just enough to get started based on the number of machines you have.

Gumball and other bulk candy vending machines do not need to be filled often - sometimes as infrequently as once or twice a month - so don't overstock.

  4. Step 4

    Refill and maintain your machines.

Once you have your machines in place, check on them often to refill and, if necessary, clean and maintain your machines. Once you get started, you'll get a good feel for how often this is.

  5. Step 5

    Revinvest your profits.

Continue to be on the lookout for locations for additional gumball vending machines. As you find locations, reinvest the profits from your first machines into more machines. Soon you will have a good business built up.
