Things You'll Need:
- Utility knife
- Sponge
- Soap slivers
-
Step 1
Place a clean, dry rectangular-shaped sponge on a flat surface. You will be working with a sharp object, so it will be safer to work on a stable counter or table top. Make sure the wide side is face down.
-
Step 2
Cut a slit into the middle of the sponge with a utility knife. The slit does not have to be precise. Just eyeball a relatively straight line. Insert the knife ¼ inch from the top edge and slide the knife down the surface to within ¼ inch of the bottom edge.
-
Step 3
Wet the sponge with water to make it more pliable. Don’t forget to squeeze out the excess.
-
Step 4
Tuck 2 to 3 soap slivers inside the opening. You may be able to get away with only using one large soap sliver, depending on the size.
-
Step 5
Test out the sponge. Wet then squeeze the sponge to work up lather. The goal is to find out if there is enough soap in the pocket to effectively clean up spills. You may need to add more soap slivers.
-
Step 6
Store the soap filled sponge in the kitchen or bathroom. You will be able to wipe down food or cosmetic stains in a jiff.
-
Step 7
Refill the sponge with soap slivers as necessary. Add soap slivers continuously or wait until they dissolve in the sponge.
