Standard male condoms, female condoms, diaphrams and cervical caps are all barrier methods for sex, though only condoms and female condoms are effective against transmission of STDs. Many people find that male condoms are the easiest to use, and thin condoms can help to increase the sensation of and improve performance during sex. Thin condoms can be tricky to use without breaking them, however, so it's important to know how to use them.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Thin condom
  1. Step 1

Open the foil package on the condom and grasp the condom by the side, which is rolled up. Unroll the condom slightly to ensure that the condom is not upside down.

  2. Step 2

Using forefinger and thumb, lightly pinch the reservoir tip while placing the condom at the head of the erect penis. Be careful not to snag the condom on a fingernail.

  3. Step 3

Continue holding the tip of the condom while rolling the length of the condom down the penis. Check the condom by looking at all angles of the penis, including the underside, for holes or tears that may have occurred.

  4. Step 4

Use lubricant to ensure that the thin condom does not slip off with excess friction. Place lubricant on the vagina or anus of your partner, and on the condom itself. When first penetrating, hold the base of the condom so that it does not move around.

Tips & Warnings
  • When using thin condoms in extended lovemaking sessions, it's important to check for tears and holes in the condom. To prevent holes or tears in the condom, the use of lubricant is especially important in anal sex.
  • Use only water-based lubricants with condoms as others can degrade the strength of the rubber in the condom. Do not completely unroll the condom before placing it on the penis. Putting an unrolled condom on the penis greatly increases the probability for holes and stress tears.
