How to Design Pumpkin Faces for Kids

Carving pumpkins is an annual tradition. Some faces can be very scary for kids to look at. Creating pumpkins that are not scary will make it fun for kids. You can draw many different faces for kids to rearrange and redesign throughout the season. This eliminates the need for carving and lighting the pumpkin, a safer alternative.

• Pumpkin
• Cardstock
• Colored pencils
• Double-sided tape
• Scissors

Instructions

Designing Pumpkin Faces For Kids

1. Draw three sets of eyes, noses and mouths on the cardstock. Make sure they are all fun and goofy, not scary.

2. Create accessories such as hats, jewelry and flowers on the cardstock.

3. Color all the drawings with colored pencils.

4. Cut out all the drawings.

5. Add doubled-sided tape to the backs of the drawings.

6. Let children play with the pieces, placing them on the pumpkin to create a face.

• Save all the extra pieces so the children can continue to make new pumpkin faces. Pay attention to the proportion of the drawings in comparison to the size of the pumpkin.
