Trying out a new hairstyle can be intimidating, as you never know how it's going to look. Now you can generate a preview image online to help you determine the most flattering hairstyles for your face shape. Some sites offer you a range of face shapes to experiment with, while others suggest you upload a personal picture to test out those new hairstyles.

Choose a free hairstyle simulator. There are dozens of online sites, like Virtual Hairstyle (see References below for link), that allow you to upload a personal photograph and experiment with hundreds of hairstyles to find the one that best suits your style and personality.

Sign up for an account on the style site of your choice, and then log in to access your account and the simulator software, and to save your styles as you experiment.

Browse through photographs of yourself that offer a straight forward view of your face. Scan your photograph in and crop it to the required size. Most sites will only allow you to use photographs sized around 250 x 250 pixels. Save the file as a JPG and upload your photograph to the hairstyle simulator of your choice.

Click through the hairstyles on the sidebar of the style simulator. When you see one you want to try, double-click the style and it will place the hairstyle over your picture so you can get a clear picture of how that style might look. You can also test out new colors on these sites if you're thinking about changing your current color.

Print your favorites and take them with you to the salon to show your stylist. If you have a few different styles and aren't sure which one to try first, don't be afraid to ask your stylist for a second opinion.
