If you have the tendency to carry around your lipstick in your pocket, chances are fairly good that someday you may need to know how to remove lipstick stains from a load of laundry. Finding lipstick stains all over your nice clean clothes is frustrating because many people are unsure of how to properly remove the stains. However, with a little patience and determination, it is possible to remove the lipstick from your clothes.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sort through the load of laundry, and examine each piece thoroughly for lipstick marks. Sort the laundry into two piles: clothes with lipstick stains and clothes without.

  2. Step 2

Check the labels of all the clothes that were affected. Since you washed the clothes in the same load of laundry, they probably have similar cleaning instructions, but verify this before beginning the stain removal process.

  3. Step 3

Take a clean white rag, dampen it with rubbing alcohol or ammonia and gently blot each stain. As tempting as it may be, don't rub with the rag, as this can spread the lipstick and make the stain larger.

  4. Step 4

Put a dab of dishwashing soap on the tip of your finger, and very gently rub each stain for a few minutes. Then rinse the area of the stain with warm water.

  5. Step 5

Apply a stain removal product to the stains that remain, and let it sit on these stubborn stains as directed in the instructions; then re-wash the affected clothes.

  6. Step 6

Seek professional help. Certain fabrics will make it more difficult to remove the lipstick stain by yourself. If the material is delicate, or the above steps did not fully remove the stain, take the item to your local dry cleaner.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you cannot find rubbing alcohol or ammonia around your house, hairspray may also work well to remove the stain.
  • Read all labels on each garment before attempting to remove the lipstick stains yourself. Also remember that rubbing the stains with the rag could make the stain larger.
