Being pregnant is one of life’s great joys. There is so much to look forward to and so much to do. Unfortunately, many common symptoms of pregnancy are either uncomfortable, embarrassing or both. Fortunately, early pregnancy constipation can be treated naturally at home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Drink Water – One of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy is constipation. Many times a glass of water is all that is needed to settle your stomach and help promote regularity. You should also try and avoid caffeinated beverages, as caffeine tends to make your symptoms worse. Another added benefit of drinking water is that it helps reduce indigestion during pregnancy by diluting the acid being produced in the stomach.

  2. Step 2

Eat Foods High in Fiber – Perhaps the easiest way to help relieve early pregnancy constipation is to eat more fiber. Foods such as oatmeal, three grain breads, and apples will help. Adding a powered fiber supplement is also generally a good idea.

  3. Step 3

Get Up and Move – Exercise has the tendency to help almost everything. As your pregnancy progresses, exercise will not only help improve your digestive system, it will help get your body ready for labor. Always consult your doctor first and have him or her instruct you in the amount of exercise you can safely do each day.

Tips & Warnings
  • Learning as much about pregnancy issues as you can so that you will know what to expect!
  • Always consult your doctor with any issues involving your pregnancy. Using online resources is a great start, but they should never replace the qualified opinion of a medical professional.
