How to Download YouTube Videos in AVI Format

Videos located on YouTube can only be watched if your computer is accessing the Internet. One way to get around this is to download the videos you wish to watch. Depending on the media player you use to watch videos, you may wish (or need) to convert the YouTube video into an AVI file. Fortunately, there is a software program that downloads YouTube videos in AVI format for free.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vixy Converter
  1. Step 1

    Download and install Vixy Converter (see Resources).

  2. Step 2

    Open a new Web browser and go to the YouTube website.

  3. Step 3

    Search for the YouTube video you want to download in AVI format.

  4. Step 4

    Copy the URL for the YouTube video you wish to convert.

  5. Step 5

    Open Vixy Converter.

  6. Step 6

    Paste the YouTube URL in the text box located at the top of Vixy Converter.

  7. Step 7

    Click the "Convert To" box. Choose "AVI for Windows."

  8. Step 8

    Click "Start." The YouTube video will begin downloading as an AVI file. A box will appear on the screen once the conversion completes.

  9. Step 9

    Select the link located next to "Converted To" found at the bottom of the Vixy program. The folder that holds the AVI file will open. From there, you will be able to open the file.

Tips & Warnings
  • Not all media players will play AVI files. For this reason, you may need to download a different media player (such as VLC Media Player).
