Surround your child with bright yellow, red and blue on the walls. Bold primary colors are well suited for a child's bedroom because brightly colored walls can energize a child and encourage creative play. Whether you choose to paint each wall one color or multiple colors, the effect promises to be lively. Add bright window treatments and floor coverings and the room will hum with energy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Latex paint in yellow, red and blue
  • Paint tray and roller
  • Tarps
  • 3-inch sash paintbrush
  • Painting tape
  • Tape measure
  • Ladder
  • Rags
  • Plastic gloves
  1. Step 1

Create a painting plan for the room. One idea is to paint the ceiling yellow, two walls red and two walls blue. Another is to create a chair rail and paint above the rail yellow, under the rail red and the wood trim of the rail blue. You also could paint vertical stripes on the walls, repeating the three colors.

  2. Step 2

Buy the paint you will need. Generally, one gallon of paint will cover 350 square feet. Make sure you allow for applying more than one coat of paint, if this will be necessary.

  3. Step 3

Lay out the tarps to protect the floor.

  4. Step 4

Prepare the walls if you will be applying more than one color to each wall. For vertical stripes, measure across the length of the wall and plan the stripes so they will be equal and even. Make small marks with a pencil at the top and bottom of the wall and apply painting tape vertically to designate the stripes. For a chair rail, apply painting tape along the walls surrounding the wood trim and paint the trim first.

  5. Step 5

Put on the plastic gloves and cut in the edges of the walls first, using the sash paintbrush. Paint the entire outer borders of the walls. Use the paint roller to paint the middle sections of the walls, according to the painting plan.

  6. Step 6

Allow the paint to dry for about four hours and apply a second coat if necessary.

  7. Step 7

Clean tools and equipment thoroughly with soap and warm water. Wait 24 hours and then remove the painting tape.
