Step 1
Eat dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, milk or ice cream. Dairy products will absorb the chemical that causes the burning feeling in your mouth.
-
Step 2
Rinse your mouth with a liquid antacid such as Mylanta or Maalox. Liquid antacids will quickly cool the burn from hot peppers and other spices. You can chew an antacid in tablet form, but it will take longer than the liquid to soothe your mouth.
-
Step 3
Eat a pinch or 2 of salt. Salt will quickly counteract the burn in your mouth from hot spicy peppers. Salt doesn't sound very appetizing, but it works.
-
Step 4
Chew white bread, semolina bread or plain crackers. These bread based foods will absorb the chemical, capsaicin, that causes the burning feeling in your mouth.

on 10/4/2009 I have a hard time eating spicy foods, love these tips. Just saw a TV show featuring a spicy restaurant...they served creamsicles to the "whimps"! That would be me! 5 stars and recommended you.

on 9/29/2009 Great ideas on how to stop mouth burn from hot peppers. You're right about water not working well. I wish I had known about the bread the last time I ate some very peppery Indian food. 5*
