Has your pet--who is house trained or litter box trained--suddenly begun peeing in the house? This article is for pets who know that peeing on the floor is a no-no. The following are some steps you can take to stop this behavior.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing you must ALWAYS do first is take your pet to see the vet. Often, peets who pee in the house are experiencing a bladder infection or other ailment that makes them either unable to control themselves or unaware that they are peeing.

  2. Step 2

If your pet checks out okay, it's important to clean the areas where they have peed to erase the scent. Animals will often return to pee in a place where they can smell their own scent. To be sure you are cleaning the right area, turn the lights out and shine a black light on the carpet or floor. Black light will illuminate pee.

  3. Step 3

Clean the area with a sponge dipped in 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water. White vinegar will not harm carpet or wood floors. DO NOT use amonia, since the amonia scent is very similar to the scent of urine.
