If you don’t know the name of the software, you can still browse the category on the web to find the popular brands that most people use. For example, if you need financial software, you could browse the “Financial software” category on a website OR you may already know you’re looking for QuickBooks. You can also find top selling software programs on a “Best Sellers” list on Amazon.

Check out super stores online or go directly to the company’s website. Sometimes you can get better deals from a different store or seller, as opposed to directly from the manufacturer. Also, each website may offer different sale prices or have different return and shipping policies.

Consider a free trial if it’s offered. If you don’t know which software program is best for you, you may have the option of trying it for free for 30 days. Otherwise, review the return policy and/or check out some customer reviews about the product before you buy.

Check that it will work with your computer. Under the software specifications, it will list which types of computers and operating systems it will work for. Most major software programs will work for all computers OR they will offer a version of the program that is specifically for your computer type and operating system. For example, if you have a PC running Windows Vista, check that it is listed under the specifications tab, or find the version that will work with your computer.

Buy software programs from a reputable website and put it on your credit card. It’s important to use a reputable site when giving out your charge card information. If you’ve never heard of the site or it looks shady, do your homework first. You can check out user reviews and google the site name for more information if in doubt. But it’s best to go with a big brand name and reputable website for online purchases.
