How to change the RAM on a laptop

Adding more RAM to your laptop may sound like a challenging task to the untrained individual. But it is not! Here is an article where I have uploaded many pictured along with the steps to replace your laptop RAM or just add a new one!

Things You'll Need

• a mini screw driver set
• a new RAM chip compatible with your laptop

Instructions

1. 

   Flip your laptop over and locate the cover underneath that encloses the RAM chips. Generally, the words "RAM" are clearly marked close to the cover. There will be a couple of small screws holding the cover in place.

2. 

   Use a mini screwdriver kit to open the cover. Normally there are two slots for holding the RAM cards. In the picture you will see that I already have two RAM cards lying horizontal.

3. 

   The image here shows one such RAM card. notice that the end with the Pins has a single slot. This allows you to orient the card correctly while installing it inside your Laptop.

4. 

   If you already have two cards inside, notice that there are two metal pins on two side of the card holding it in place. Gently hold the tip of the pins are pull them apart horizontally.

5. 

   As soon as the pins are pulled apart, the Ram pops up in an angular plane. Simply pull out the card and place the new one in the card slot in a similar manner. The picture shows the card popped out at an angle.

6. 

   Replace the old card with the new one and gently press from the top to make it lie horizontal. The two side metal clips will snap around the new card holding it in place

7. 

   Replace the cover and put the screws back on!
