How to Choose a Wine Cooler
-
1
Make a list of the types of wine that will be stored in the wine cooler. Each different beverage will have its own optimum temperature guidelines and recommendations. For example, white wine, Champagne, sparkling wine and red wine all have different temperature requirements. One wine cooler may be suitable for one type and may have one temperature regulation, and another may have a more sophisticated system where different compartments can house different beverage varieties.

Capacity is the next key step to finding the right wine cooler for your needs. Sizes for wine coolers range from a few wine bottles to 25 all the way up to hundreds of bottles. If only a few bottles of wine will be kept in the wine cooler at any given time, even though your wine cellar may be large, perhaps a smaller wine cooler is all that is needed. On the other hand, for those who have a limited amount of wine stored at room temperature but need a very large space to house wines that need to be refrigerated, a larger wine cooler may be needed.

Finding the best type of wine cooler is the third step in choosing a proper wine cooler. Types of wine coolers include those that are free standing and self contained (similar to a free standing and movable refrigerator), under cabinet, counter top and those made specially for small spaces.

If specific features are required or desired, make notes of those when shopping. Special features may include those that have glass fronts, stainless steel trim, energy efficient models and humidity controls. Specialized models may even have tinting to prevent sunlight and UV rays from entering and destroying the wine inside.

5
Look at the space in which the wine cooler will be housed. Take a tape measure and accurately measure the depth, height and width of the space, and work the wine cooler inside of it. Unless the unit is special and has all the features desired, many different units are available to fit in any given space.

Budgets must always be factored into the equation. If a budget is made for a wine cooler, make a note of it when shopping, and check each model for the specific desires and requirements. Things that are a must will help to narrow the brands down, and some special features can be omitted if the costs are too high for your budget.
