Wedding programs are not a requirement of the wedding ceremony, but they have become quite popular. A basic wedding program will list the names of the participants and the order of the ceremony. Programs can come in a variety of styles ranging from a single-page scroll to booklets made up of several pages. A basic booklet-style wedding program can be made fairly easily using a single sheet of paper. The names of the bride and groom along with the wedding date typically make up the front cover. The inside lists the ceremony components on the left and the names of the participants on the right. The back may be left blank or serve as the place for a final statement, such as a thank-you to guests for attending.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Select your paper. You will need 8 ½-inch-by-11-inch cardstock. Choose a stock that is heavy enough to prevent transparency when folded but not too thick for your printer. The craft store is a good place to find cardstock in many colors and designs. A solid color works best when printing text. Choose colors that match your wedding colors.

  2. Step 2

Set up two pages in a Microsoft Word program. Click on "page set-up" and select the landscape layout. Click on "format" and select "columns." Set up two columns of equal size and apply to the whole document.

  3. Step 3

Choose a font and text color. These can be found by clicking on the dropdown menu from "font" on the toolbar or by selecting "format" and clicking "font." Choose a style and color that will be easy to read when printed on your paper.

  4. Step 4
Start with the back. It will become the last page when it is folded.

Type the text that will be on the back cover of your wedding program into the first column of the first page. Type the front cover text into the second column. When the page is printed and folded booklet style, the front and back will be in the proper order.

Type the text that is to be on the left side of the program's interior into the first column of the second page. Follow with the program's right side text in the second column.

  6. Step 6

Insert desired images. You may want to use personal pictures you have uploaded or select from the default clip art on your computer. Free clip art websites also have a variety of wedding images from which to choose.Set your cursor in the spot where you would like your image to appear. Then click "insert" and select "pictures." If you are using default clip art, click on "clip art." If you are using an uploaded image, click on "from file." Browse to the place images you have saved. Select the image and click "insert."

  7. Step 7

Print a sample page on plain white paper. Print the first page of the Word document, then turn the printed page over and print the second page on the reverse side. The sample page is to ensure the paper is placed correctly to print the second side as it is easy to make the mistake of printing it upside down.

  8. Step 8

Make any changes needed based on your sample. Once you have created a sample with which you are satisfied, print your wedding programs on the paper you selected and fold in the middle to create a booklet.
