Business Cards Come in All Shapes and Sizes.

Business cards are impossible for professionals to live without. You need business cards to give to clients, should they need to contact you. You also need them to help market yourself to potential clients. If you are just starting out or just need to minimize expenses, you can print your own business cards at home for little or no money.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase business card paper at your local office supply store. While you could use a heavier stock of paper to make your own business cards, high-quality business card paper is more professional.

    • 2

Open your word processor program to determine if it offers a business card printing template. Microsoft Word and other popular programs do (see link in Resources).

    • 3

Customize your business card template to match your preference. Most programs allow you to add photos or graphics. While this can add style to your card, keep in mind that it will also use more ink. Print your business cards on normal office paper first. Make sure the design and text are legible.

    • 4

Load the business card paper into your printer and print your business cards. Due to the thickness (usually 80-lb. stock), it is best to load one or two pages at a time.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you cannot acquire business card paper, use a heavier stock of office paper. Standard office paper is 20-lb. stock. Opt for a stock of 60 to 80 lbs.
