Modeling Interview Tips
Many models work with modeling agencies. An agency finds work and negotiates contracts for the models it represents with clients like fashion designers and advertising agencies. For beginner models, working with an agency is an opportunity to receive training, participate in test shoots and develop their portfolio. As in other fields, models typically interview at an agency before being hired. To increase the chances of you landing your next modeling gig, familiarize yourself with the appropriate ways of preparing for and acting at a modeling interview.
Instructions

1
Wear a stylish, casual outfit that accentuates your best features without making you look gaudy or cheap. Avoid garments and accessories that will take an agent's attention away from what you are saying.
-
2
Wear a minimal amount of makeup. Modeling agents will want to see the real you at the interview. Hiding blemishes with concealer, bringing out the eyes with mascara and brightening up your complexion with a bit of blush should be sufficient.
-
-
3
Arrive at the interview early. The agency will be reluctant to hire someone it thinks will not be on time for shoots and other commitments.
-
4
Give a confident smile and handshake as you are introduced to the agent(s). Confidence is essential in the modeling business, and you want to show that you have plenty of it.
-
5
Thank the agent for his honesty if he comments about your weight. While weight is often considered a sensitive subject in an ordinary context, it is an inevitable issue in the modeling industry. Getting flustered will make the agent think that you cannot take criticism direction and are not willing to do what it takes to work with the agency.
-
6
Demonstrate your good attitude and ability to work with others by being open to agents' suggestions about changing your hairstyle, removing a piercing or covering up a tattoo. Do not disagree with the agent or try to show her that you know better. While ultimately no one will force you to work with that particular agency, you need to act professionally at the interview.
-
7
Bring your modeling portfolio to the interview even if you have not been asked to. An agent may not revisit your file for weeks after an interview, and when he does, it is important that he sees your best shots. Include only quality photographs and make sure to provide both a headshot and full-body shot. Whenever possible, use photos that demonstrate several different "looks" such as commercial and high fashion.

Tips & Warnings
Be extra cautious if an agent is telling you everything you want to hear, which could mean that he is trying to scam you. You can investigate an agency by looking it up in the Better Business Bureau (see Resources).
