How to Add Oil to a Murray Riding Mower

Riding mowers, also called ride-on mowers, vary from small riding mowers to lawn tractors. It is considered garden/lawn power equipment. If you need to mow a large area, a riding mower is the best choice as long as you have enough room to store the mower. It is comfortable to use with fast speeds and a high quality result. Murray offers different models of mowers and a full range of outdoor power equipment, such as walk-behind mowers, tractors and snow throwers.

  • Operator's manual and/or instruction book
  • gloves
  • small piece of cloth
  • recommended oil

    Instructions

  1. Step 1

    Check the manual and/or instruction book for the specific oil type needed and oil capacity for your Murray riding mower. Use the oil viscosity recommended by the engine's manufacturer, depending on the expected operating temperature.

  2. Step 2

    Make sure your Murray riding mower is on level ground. Always turn off the engine when checking the oil. Wear gloves for protection from dirt.

  3. Step 3

    Remove the dipstick from the tube, and wipe it clean with small piece of cloth. Put it back into the tube, and push down firmly. Wait for a few seconds to get an accurate reading. Put it back into the tube again, and push down firmly. Read the oil level using the dipstick gauge. If it is below the "Full" mark, add oil.

  4. Step 4

    Pour the oil slowly until it reaches the "Full" mark on the dipstick. Make sure not to overfill. Refer to the product specifications for approximate oil capacity. When you're finished, put the dipstick back by pushing down firmly into the tube.
